Arabic with Yamam

As you'll come to realize, Yamam is so smart that she is bilingual!
When I was in 7th grade and she was in 8th, she taught me some words.

First of all, the most basic word: hello!

In Arabic, hello is مرحبا, which is pronounced marhaaban This is the word that I remember most clearly. To say it correctly, you kind of have to roll your tongue on the r, a little bit. It's not a hard r like in the word right, but sounds kind of like "ahhhrrr" That's how it sounds to me, at least. You probably shouldn't trust me, as I am not a fluent speaker, nor am I a master in pronunciation.

She also taught me yes (نعم فعلا) [nem fielaan]
and no (لا) [la]

After that, she began spewing random words and their English meanings:

desk-(مكتب)[maktab]
chair-(كرسي)[kursii]
violin-(كمان)[kaman]

etc, etc, etc...

*note: all of the Arabic writing is courtesy of Google Translate, because writing systems cannot be conveyed through speech

All while this was happening, we were *not* paying attention in Orchestra class.
To be fair, our teacher was working with other students and we were bored. We talked a lot in that class, but that was what made it fun. We both played violin, and she sat right behind me, so distance was no problem. Somehow we always found something to talk about, which is actually pretty rare for me.

Overall, I think blogging was a good experience. I learned how to create a blog and format it. I also learned that I am not good at blogging- I cannot avoid awkwardness :')
Blogs are important because they are a common way to share interests, opinions, and other things. My favorite blog written by a classmate is this one by Lexi Hankenson. It stuck out to me because the writing is really good.

Introduction to Yamam

(yamam)يمام

Yamam is the girl in red that's plastered on the background of this blog. Her full name is Yamam Hussein, and her first name means pigeon. Possibly the first thing you notice about her is her fashion. She always has the cutest outfits and looks on POINT. I mean, her outfits are always fairly simple but extremely cute. She's also really good at accessorizing.
Yamam was born in Iraq, but came to America as a little girl. She speaks Arabic, which I think is so cool.

RANDOM FUN FACT: She's been in the newspaper before (but I won't tell you how to find it) (because she won't let me) (just google her name)

She wears glasses, so she's basically a nerd. A cool nerd.
She attended King elementary school, and from there she went to Callanan. She now is a sophomore at Roosevelt high school, and was in my Mass Comm class until she left :'(
She likes to watch K Dramas and talk to her friends. Everyone around her can testify that she is funny- her bright, humorous personality makes her easy to joke around with.
Her zodiac sign is virgo, which apparently means that she's picky and modest. I don't think she's that picky, but she definitely knows her worth. All you Tauruses, Cancers, Capricorns, and Scorpios, try asking her out ;) Chances are you'll get along.
Follow her on instagram @its_birdy3

RANDOM FUN FACT: she is not an only child

Summary:
Name:Yamam Hussien
Age:15
Grade:10
Zodiac Sign: Virgo
Languages she speaks: Arabic, English, learning Spanish
Hobbies: watching KDramas, listening to music, talking to friends
Characteristics: funny, friendly, down-to-earth
You'll never see her without: her phone

All in all, your takeaway from this should be that Yamam is a bright person. If you see her in the hallway, say hi. She might think you're weird because who does that, but yolo, right?
